"The Sheriff's Office exists to serve and protect the people of York County. I look forward to earning the trust of voters and building a Sheriff's Office that sets the standard for professionalism, accountability, and service in Maine."
Meet the Candidate ~ Brian Pellerin
Brian Pellerin is a lifelong public servant with more than 34 years of experience leading and serving in federal, state, and local law enforcement. He is running for York County Sheriff as a principled Independent candidate because he believes public safety leadership must be accountable, transparent, and free from partisan politics.

Brian currently serves as the Chief Deputy of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office under Sheriff Kevin Joyce, helping lead a CALEA-accredited agency responsible for law enforcement services across 15 municipalities, correctional operations, civil process, and administrative services. He provides executive oversight of personnel, policy, accreditation, budgeting, and labor relations within an agency serving more than 300,000 residents.

Previously, Brian spent nearly two decades as a federal special agent, including service with the United States Secret Service and the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services Office of Inspector General. His work included complex investigations, interagency coordination, national policy development, and protective operations for senior government officials at home and abroad.

Brian’s roots in York County policing run deep. He began his career locally, serving as Acting Police Chief, Sergeant, Detective, and Patrol Officer, with the Buxton and Saco Police Departments, gaining firsthand experience with community-based policing, rural response needs, and the challenges facing small and mid-sized departments.
Beyond day-to-day operations, Brian has helped shape the future of law enforcement in Maine. As a gubernatorial appointee and Chairman of the Maine Criminal Justice Academy Board of Trustees for more than a decade, he oversaw officer training, certification, and professional standards statewide, while advocating for stronger accountability and consistent ethical expectations of our law enforcement and corrections officers here in Maine.
Brian grew up in Saco where he graduated from Thornton Academy. Brian currently lives in Dayton, where he remains deeply engaged in the community as a local volunteer for several community organizations and as high school volleyball coach at Thornton Academy.

Brian is a graduate of Southern Maine Community College’s Criminal Justice program, has a Bachelors Degree in Technical Education from the University of Southern Maine, completed basic police certification training at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy, completed Special Agent training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center and at the U.S. Secret Service’s James J. Rowley Training Center.

Brian holds a Police Executive Certificate from the Maine Criminal Justice Academy and has received advanced law enforcement leadership training through the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association’s Trilogy program, the Department of Homeland Security’s Leadership Academy Session 22, and the internationally acclaimed Police Executive Research Forum’s Senior Management Institute for Policing Session 98.
